Will Netflix Kill Cable Television By: Kate Andersen
Do you ever watch shows late into the night? Do you ever find yourself spending hours and hours browsing and streaming? If you answered these questions with a ¨yes¨ you may be a binge watcher. Binge watching is when you continually watch a show without stopping on a streaming site such as the greatly popular Netflix. Netflix is becoming extremely popular because it is on demand and can be accessed at any time. Netflix is a online streaming website where you can access endless shows that you can watch whenever you want wherever you want (Netflix). People are beginning to use this site more often than cable and it is ¨currently the dominant company in the relatively young and hugely expensive on-demand media industry¨ (Investopedia). Some are beginning to believe that Netflix could kill cable (The Verge). Last year the show that won the Emmy for best drama, was a show found exclusively on Netflix (The Economist Explains). This just goes to show that some of the most anticipated shows of the year are found only on Netflix. For example, Stranger Things, House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and more. The shows are begging to become more popular than traditional TV companies shows (The Verge). Even with all of Netflix's current popularity, there is no way it could actually break TV just yet. It hvs not even come close yet, but soon enough, it will. Netflix along with other streaming sites ex: Hulu, amazon, and others (The Economist Explains). This could be the fall of cable, just not today. Overall Netflix is becoming more, and more popular vnd could be the fall of cable. We love the shows and how they stream on demand. But, Netflix will not kill cable just yet. We have some time before cable will end because like stated above it has not come close. Until then let’s just watch our TV and enjoy our Netflix separately.
