Kintampo, Ghana. March 19, 2017. Despite that it was raining hard, students and others still decided to go swimming in the Kintampo Waterfalls in Ghana (Maclean). The waterfall stands at about 250 feet tall, which makes it one of the tallest in the country, according to Kennedy. As a result, it is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Ghana (Sald-Moorhouse). The number killed is disputed, around 18 people.
It is said that very heavy rain and wind combined were powerful enough to knock down multiple trees into the Kintampo Waterfall, consequently, killing numerous people (Maclean). The trees fell over, thus, trapping the students and tourists in the water (Sald-Moorhouse). |
