Wifi is needed but hasn’t succeeded. As school gets into full swing , it felt as if we had sudden problems with Wifi. With about 500 students in the school all using Chromebooks all day, the Wifi has been stretched. With the fact that the Wifi doesn’t reach all of the classrooms at all times, and it can be a problem. It may not always succeed, but Wifi is what we need, and, luckily, we have it. We, as a school, have done well with many of needed characteristics for the Wifi to work well. The strong point is placed in the library, the heart of the school, which is suggested by many Wifi gurus. Most classes can get decent coverage, except if you are on the outskirts of the school. The connection is very strong in certain classrooms, making it simple and stress-free to connect. Though concrete can block signals, it can still be accessed easily. Though storms usually interrupt signals, we have no interruption. We have a strong connection, it is just strained. We all use Wifi. We need it. We all strain it. It is used to access Google for projects, watch videos for understanding, and use it to grade projects and E-mail important information. With many people using this for so many things, the connection can go weak. In larger classes on the outskirts, it can take some time to load. This can take time away from taking notes or working on something. We have certain stronger Wifi areas in this school. All teachers use technology in some way. When you pair that with the 500 kids in the building, that adds up to over 530 people using the same stream of Wifi. The librarians say that over five people come to the library daily to attempt to reconnect. The students have to make these attempts rarely, but often enough. This tends to take a bit of time from learning. If a student went to the library to reconnect every day for one minute in the school year, 180 days, he/she would take away about 3 hours of learning out of the 1111 student hours. It may not seem to be a large amount of time, but that is about half of a day of school.
With all of the staff, students, and other people and NSJH, the Wifi has been stretched, causing a rare but normal occurrence. We all need and use Wifi, and the school has done several things to help us all connect, like having a strong connection. Nonetheless, Wifi is common, but tends to hit bottom. Our school tries to fill the need, but it doesn’t always succeed.
