Overwatch vs Call of Duty Black Ops 3
By Blake Kilker Overwatch and Call of Duty Black Ops 3 were both huge successes. They are both first person shooter strategy games bringing in great ratings as well as lots of hate. Overwatch is a game that came out in May of this year by blizzard studios and ended up getting quite a lot of love and an unexpected amount of hate but somehow still managed to get a rating of 9/10 almost everywhere you look. So here are the basics of the game. It is a first person multiplayer hero shooter game of competitive strategy with many different characters to choose from with their own set of unique abilities that all fall into four categories: offense, defense, tank, or support, which you can choose between throughout the match. Sadly, there is not a story line. However, all the characters have a counter character which is a design for the best matches possible, so it all works out in the end because the characters wouldn’t really make a good storyline anyways. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is also a multiplayer first person shooter that also involves a lot of strategy. However, there is definitely more variety in guns, abilities, and equipment to make personalized classes to switch between throughout a match which allows for more strategy and more preferences which allows you to get even more into the game and most people think that it makes the game easier to enjoy. The base of what makes black ops 3 separated is how it introduces the advanced cyber warfare setting and gear, not the idea of it. For example, a new mechanic of the game is you can use a jetpack to fly a short distance into the air and you can also run on walls. And then there’s the zombie mode, it was just as expected with wall weapons, mystery boxes, and lots of strategy, everything that makes Call of Duty zombies different, but most people you ask will say that it pretty much stayed the same, the only thing that changed was they added all the new game mechanics. Now, this section is going to be the compare and contrast portion of the writing. To start off, similarities: they are both first person shooters with unique abilities depending on your preferences. Some differences are how everything about black ops 3 is customizable while Overwatch is just picking from different characters so black ops 3 feels more you and it allows for a better setting according to most people, and lastly, Overwatch doesn’t have a story while call of duty does, while not everyone might agree that it was good, there is one. In conclusion, these are both first person shooters and that’s what people want right now so they were both successful but they are also looking to be a step in video game making as well as how people look at video games |
