He was as sly as a fox. In Seaside Park, New Jersey, at 9:35 am on September 17, 2016, a pipe bomb blew up, canceling the charity race for veterans that was about to happen.According to the Washington Post, and the New York Times, no one was reported hurt. Later that night, at 8:30 pm, a bomb blew up a dumpster, in Chelsea, New York. According to the New York times, at least 31 people were reported injured. Another bomb was then found in Elizabeth, New Jersey, but it had not yet gone off. The bomb was similar to a pressure cooker, which is a pot that cooks by itself, and it was removed safely by a bomb squad. They checked the surveillance camera’s at the bombing sites and the fingerprints on the bomb that didn’t explode, to concluded that the person responsible for the bombing was a 28 year old man, Ahmad Khan Rahami. On monday, September 19, Ahmad was seen sleeping in the doorway to a bar. The owner called the cops, and when the officers went to arrest Ahmad, they got into a gunfight, where Ahmad and two officers were shot. After the gunfight, Ahmad was sent to the hospital. After getting treated, he was held on trial through a video conference, while his lawyer was by his side. Ahmad was charged with many crimes, which included the use of weapons that cause mass destruction (2nd degree), bombing a public place (2nd degree), and attempted murder (5th degree). It was not only discovered that 2 years ago Ahmad’s father, Mr. Rahami, warned the FBI that his son, Ahmad Khan Rahami was in communication with Osama Bin Laden, and that he feared that Ahmad was a terrorist. Also that, according to the New York Times, Ahmad had been planning the bombing since June. CNN also stated that Mr. Rahami talked to reporters, and said that also two years ago, he told the police about Ahmad’s violent self, and how Ahmad stabbed his other son, and hit his mom. The New York times also stated that Ahmad would get the materials to make his weapons often off eBay. Ahmad, who is now in custody, is not talking (according to CNN), his bail is set at $5.2 million, and the Taliban denies knowledge of Ahmad. CNN reporter also brings up Ahmad’s past, and how he was arrested in 2014 for weapons charges, and aggravated assault. We should learn from this attack to be more careful and alert for terrorist attacks, because this man, got away with it and he was planning it since June. We should have caught him, but we weren’t alert. We should (in the future) be more alert for these kinds of things.
