NSJH 2016 Variety Show By: Mackenzie Bohr Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “You gain strength and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing that you cannot do.” All of the students that performed in the North Scott Junior High Variety Show had to have courage in order to perform. These performers had enough strength and courage to share their abilities with a gym full of students watching them. Successful Variety Show Overall the 2016 Variety Show was profoundly successful. It consisted of 15 different acts ranging from singing to dancing, and even to magic tricks performed by Mr. Headlee. The Variety Show was opened with the 8th grade Jazz Band playing a rendition of “Sleigh Bells,” followed by even more talented performers who had a lot of guts to get up and perform in front of their peers. Some crowd pleasers included the trio of boys who sang “Seven Bridges Road,” as well as Dynamic Dancers. Smooth Show Mrs. Wilson, who was responsible for year’s Variety Show, explained how she thought the Variety Show went this year in comparison to previous years. “I think the Variety Show went really well this year. We had a nice selection of acts, and everyone was really well prepared. We didn't have any technical difficulties like we have in the past, and everything ran very smoothly.” she explained. All the acts were fantastic, and Mrs. Wilson is proud of all of the students for having the guts to perform in front of their peers. “Little Song” Later in the Variety Show, Grayson Juel, who was the 10th act, sang a self composed song. He enlightened us on his thoughts on his performance. “I think that my performance went pretty well. It went well considering the fact that I sang it acapella.” He later explained that he got a good reaction from the students in the crowd. When asked if he would participate in the Variety Show again next year he said he would because it is, “a life changing experience” that many students need to participate in. Grayson sang a song, titled “Little Song,” that he self composed. “I have always been interested in music since I was little. I always wanted to write songs and I have always have had a passion.” he responded when asked what his inspiration was in writing songs. In conclusion, this year’s Variety Show has had many positive effects on not only the performers but the students that watched as well. The performers learned how to face their fears that they might face being in front of the whole student body. As a result, they were able to pull off a successful Variety Show, while the students watching, learned to appreciate those who stepped out of their comfort zone just to entertain them. Surely, next year’s Variety Show will definitely be one to look forward to.
